Big news if you’re planning a road trip to Prince Edward Island this summer– it just got a lot cheaper to leave the Island.
As of August 1, 2025, the toll for the Confederation Bridge has officially dropped from $50.25 to just $20 per vehicle. The announcement came earlier this week from Prime Minister Mark Carney during a visit to Albany, PEI.
The 12.9 km bridge connects PEI to New Brunswick and sees over one million vehicles cross it every year. Until now, travelers paid more than $50 to exit the Island. But with the new price cut, it’s suddenly way more budget-friendly.
🚗 More Affordable Atlantic Adventures
The federal government says the change is part of a wider push to improve affordability and access to Atlantic Canada. It’s expected to cost about $100 million, but Carney says it will be worth it by bringing more visitors, more spending, and lower costs for locals.
The toll applies only when leaving PEI, so heading to the Island is still free, you’ll just pay $20 when it’s time to go.
🚢 Ferry Fares Cut in Half Too
The good news doesn’t stop at the bridge. Several ferry services in Atlantic Canada have also seen big fare reductions:
- Northumberland Ferries (PEI to Nova Scotia)
- Bay Ferries (Nova Scotia to New Brunswick)
- Marine Atlantic (Nova Scotia to Newfoundland)
Starting August 1, passengers, vehicles, and commercial traffic on these federally supported routes are getting 50% off.
🔥 Why This Is a Big Deal
- Makes PEI and Atlantic Canada more accessible for summer travel
- Could boost tourism traffic to PEI during August and fall
- Helps Islanders who travel frequently to the mainland
- Encourages day trips and spontaneous adventures
Social media is already lighting up with jokes about “finally being able to afford to leave the Island.” It’s fun, it’s quirky, and it’s the kind of thing that might just spark a few viral moments.
