A new series filmed in Newfoundland is about to hit screens, and locals in St. John’s can celebrate its release with a massive free watch party.
All six episodes of BELOW will be screened at Spirit of Newfoundland on Thursday, October 8, with free admission, special guests, raffle prizes and a fundraiser supporting the Town of Trinity Fire Department.
The event will feature a premiere marathon of the entire series, along with appearances from several people connected to the production and Newfoundland’s entertainment industry.
And while admission is completely free, organizers say the event is already almost at capacity and an RSVP is required.
All Six Episodes Of BELOW Will Be Screened
The BELOW watch party is happening at Spirit of Newfoundland, 208 Gower Street in St. John’s, on October 8.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the evening expected to begin around 6 p.m.
According to the tentative schedule shared by organizers, the first two episodes will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by episodes three and four at 8 p.m. and episodes five and six at approximately 9:45 p.m.
There will also be surprise guest appearances throughout the night.
The event is general seating and admission is free, but anyone hoping to attend needs to RSVP by emailing belowscreening@gmail.com.
Organizers say the screening is already nearing capacity.
Some Familiar Newfoundland Faces Will Be There
The event is also bringing together several notable guests.
Organizers have announced special guests including Mary Walsh, Andy Jones, Joel Thomas Hynes, Larry Barry, Stephen Dunn and Willow Kean.
It makes the screening an especially fitting way to celebrate a production with strong Newfoundland connections alongside the local community.
The Event Is Raising Money For Trinity’s Fire Department
The watch party is also serving a much bigger purpose.
Organizers are using the event to raise money for the Town of Trinity Fire Department following the loss of a firefighter and an emergency vehicle during a rescue mission.
An older vehicle is currently being used temporarily, and the fundraiser is intended to help purchase a permanent replacement so local firefighters have the equipment they need.
Admission to the screening itself is free, while raffle tickets are being sold separately to support the fundraiser.
More Than $7,000 In Prizes Are Up For Grabs
There are 18 raffle prizes valued at more than $7,400, ranging from Newfoundland getaways to dining experiences, artwork and locally made products.
Some of the biggest prizes include a two-night stay at The Sunset House valued at $1,850, a John MacDonald Ann Harvey lithograph valued at $1,500, a one-night stay at Blueberry Cottage valued at $750 and a Trinity Eco-Tours overnight stay and Ocean Safari for two valued at $500.
Other prizes include accommodations, restaurant experiences, local gift certificates, artwork, books and Newfoundland-made products.
Raffle tickets cost $20 for one, $50 for three, $100 for seven or $250 for 20.
Every ticket is eligible for every prize draw, and you don’t have to attend the watch party to win.
Physical prizes will need to be picked up in St. John’s or Trinity, as shipping is not being provided.
BELOW Arrives October 8
The watch party lands on the same day BELOW is set to arrive, making it a chance for Newfoundlanders to see all six episodes together while celebrating a production connected to the province.
Between the free screening, Newfoundland talent, surprise guests and fundraiser for Trinity’s firefighters, it could be a pretty special night for the local community.
